Hi does anyone know which of these 2 thermostat housings, pictured below from MGB's, does the above conversion and lines up with the 1098 rad properly?
Image
Probably the upper one in the pic. I just used the standard stat housing that came with the head - and a slightly 'bent' rubber pipe !
Top tip for any housing - run a drill bit down the holes to open them out v slightly, and smear grease (or copperslip) on the mounting studs before fitting.

Thanks bmc and yes I always grease the studs I remember having to hack a thermostat housing to bits years ago to remove the seized up mess!

The top one is correct. It is part no. 12H797 from the pre 1967 MGB. It has to be dressed with a round file on one of the holes to fit-5min job.
Image
I agree with the above and also the fact that the MG one has to have the holes 'dressed' to allow them to fit over the studs.

I bought one of those at this year's national and fitted it to my modified car (1275 head) and it lines up beautifully. :D
