I drove to Cheltenham in the Traveller to see the Morgan 100 Anniversary Rally only to find when I got to the site at Cheltenham Race Course that they wanted £40 per person entrance fee. Much as I like Morgans, there was no way I was going to spend £80 for my wife and I to wander around looking at Morgans for a couple of hours. We just parked up near the gate and watched and photographed the cars whilst we had lunch.
I didn't have the problem getting in to the 60th Anniversary at Prescott and had an enjoyable weekend watching the 3 wheelers on two wheels on the hill climb.
I hope that the MMOC don't start charging those sort of prices

Probably seems like nothing to a Morgan owner.

More than one Morgan owner turned around at the gate and drove home.
Evening functions and other activities were extra.

I too went to Prescott for the VSCC meeting on Sunday (The VSCC 75th Anniversary Meeting was on Friday). My parents came with me so I took the Traveller (Probably would have rained if I had taken the Midget

).
If I had a bit more garage space (I always like a space in hand for working on the cars), plus ofcourse a few spare £ to buy one, I'd very much like an Austin 7 Ulster, to enable me to take part in VSCC events.

I haven't driven at Prescott for some years, though I drove the Midget there in the '90s and also a single seater (Back in the early '80s I held the bicycle record). I hope to get around to a bit of classic hillclimbing (The Midget is now old enough) one day. I rather like the idea of having a go in the Traveller, which is elligable for the pre '72 championship.
I also saw an MG M Type Midget, which is based on the first Morris Minor.

I'd also like a pre war Morgan 4/4, as these too are elligable for VSCC (I can't help feeling that the venue had something to do with the price of entry to the 100th Anniversay meeting). Ironically Morgans were always quite cheap until they commanded a premium. In the 1950s, a 2 litre Plus 4 was cheaper than an MGA. Although much faster than a standard MGA and more reliable than the Twin Cam, it was considered old fashioned and it was largely due to company reserves that Morgan survived the lean years.
Also much in evidence, during the day, was the Gloucestershire & Warwickshire Railway (
http://www.gwsr.com/), which passes very near to Prescott and has a station at Cheltenham Race Course. Once or twice, when I went back to the car park, I saw a couple of trains and I heard numerous train whistles thoughout the day

.

I would love to own a TR engined flat rad Morgan but the pockets are only deep enough for the two Minors<br>

That's partly why I bought a Midget. At the time (1984), for the price of a descent Midget, you only got a rough Morgan 4/4 and in those days I needed the car for regular use (And the Midget is more practical). I have to say that the Midget has a lot going for it, not least good spares availabilty and it fits into the tinyest of spaces. ALthough prices have gone up of late, they are still a pretty cheap way of owning a sports car and can be very fast when modified.
I have always liked the +8 Morgan and the +4 Super Sports was quite a machine. The "Standard" TR engined cars were also good, as were the Ford 1600 models of the type that I considered buying.

Hi,
2500 entries were accepted for the Morgan Celebrations at Cheltenham.
The entry fees have been much discussed by our customers. Most seem to accept that it is once in 100 years and in their view ''worth'' paying.
I for one wouldn't go anywhere that charged that much for an entry!!!
FWIW - Our company was the only one selling parts on the Rally field (apart from Morgan Motor Company themselves) and we also achieved top concours awards in the +8 and 3-wheeler categories.
A good, if expensive, week-end for all 'Morganeers'!

I had originally hoped to take my Series MM which is a bit more respectable than my Traveller and I looked on the website with no luck to see if they had a visitors entry category as the MMOC does for other makes of car. As it happened the MM was off the road so I went in the Traveller on the off chance of getting in but was not prepared for that entry fee.
Still the weather was fine and we had a good grive up the old road up Birdlip Hill
