What an amazing display - fortunately not so much of a rust problem over there :-)

Many of these are original California cars, too.

Don't know. Planning on joining this club, though. Nice group and very friendly.

Wow, what are the odds of meeting someone on this forum in GB who's been here?

The friendship and quality of life was superb. Had to come back due to family stuff in UK.

I confess we had a Model T and later a T-Bird. No Moggies in those days.

Send us some sunshine please and we'll let you have some of our rain

Were all the Brit cars in that show invariably left hand drive?

Were any of them unreconstructed imports, ie right hand drive?

Is it illegal to drive a RHD car in California or something?

And about the number plates - there was at least one with appeared to be a British plate - JOG 613E - is that road legal in California? Ad does it imply that it at least was originally a Briish car, not a Brit export?

Most of the more common cars were LHD imports from Britain (like my truck). Virtually all the newer MGs, Triumphs, Austin Healys, Lotus, Jensen, etc were LHD.
More than a few older cars were unreconstructed RHD, though. The old Rolls, and the older MGs were RHD. Couple newer Rolls were LHD.
Not illegal to drive a RHD car here.
It is illegal to not have California plates on front and rear in our state.
Brit plates are not legal in the US.
Many who do, do it in defiance of the law (because their cars are barely driven) or switch plates for the show. Our area is so car friendly (many police are car collectors), that one would most likely never get cited for driven a pristine 50 year-old-car like this.
Most likely, the plates were after-market or came off a UK car. Strictly for show. There are online places that sell them.
When I visited France a few years ago, I had a plate made with my California numbers (still not legal) for show, for the front of my vintage Renault.

Is there a certain time of year that's best to go to California for the car shows - ? similarly is there a particular area that has more of a car scene than others? I need to start planning and saving for a trip to California to see all those places that inspired me from Custom Car, Street Machine back in the '80s and even the Beach Boys lyrics.

A Model T and T-Bird eh Squiggle :o :) cool

Well the T-Bird had serious wheel wobble at certain speeds!
Wasn't in a really 'cool' condition.

Great days for second hand heaps [Sorry Jono] just 'Go see Cal'.

And was pink of course.

Had such an amazing time out there. Applied for all sorts of jobs. One interviewer explained I'd have to be measured up for a uniform [for a 'receptionist' job].

Fine.

But it was a Bunny Girl outfit and it was one of those 'houses'!

I left!

Didn't have the figure for it anyhow

Got turned down for a job at Burger King as I was 'overqualified'. Think that could be taken as a compliment??

Bluffed my way into a printing works. Thought I could work out how to use a Heidleberg machine. Can't be that difficult........

Young and foolish.

Fed paper in, switched on and the machine spewed paper everywhere. Woody Allen would have been proud of me [re Sleeper].

I got the sack, oddly

For Southern California, it's all year round. Safe to say that Summer has the most shows. Do a Google search for California Car shows. There are more than a few good online calendars.
My area always has something going on- from Hotrods to Ratrods to Muscle cars. Harder to find the import shows, but they're around. One local town up the road, Santa Paula, closes down the entire downtown the first Friday night of every month for a big cruise night. Hundreds of cars.

Well previous postings have been signed 'Kurt' and mentioned a wife so I'm guessing that it's a Mr rather than Mrs
