Hi

Don't laugh!

I have used Photoshop 3.0 for many years.

I said don't laugh!

and now need to reinstall it from the original disc.

BUT.......I don't know the serial number to access it. It is a legal copy but I haven't needed the serial number for years and have no idea where I might have put it.

Just wondered if there is a way round this without purchasing a newer version.

Aside from googling for a serial number, I cant suggest anything else

Try the support site, they should give you the key as you have a legal copy.

There may be a folder on the CD with the serial number details. There is on my copy of Photoshop 6, but I don't know about earlier versions. Is it the full version or LE?

Is it because you have a new PC?
If you still have it running on an old PC you could try:http://magicaljellybean.com/keyfinder/
I believe this will reveal more than just the XP serial number.

Otherwise I would suggest The Gimp:
http://www.gimp.org/Which has all the features of Photoshop but with a less than intuitive interface or:
http://www.gimpshop.com/which has a Deweirdifier to make things more friendly for photoshop users.

If all else fails I have a spare copy of Photoshop Elements, (still in box with all manuals and the all important code) It's a little old but the mentions 'upgrading to version 6 for professional productivity' so it's probably way advanced over version 3. Yours for the 2 quid I paid for it plus the postage! :D

I think that if you lose those serial number things you can ring up the softwares publisher and they will tell you it again for a small fee.

There may be an issue with this. I have a Photoshop 5 disc that I wanted to install on a new PC only to find it was an upgrade disc that needed version 3 or above, already installed, in order to work. :(
Incidentally, it came in a cardboard sleeve that had the install code printed on it.

Hi and thanks for all the responses.

I am running a Mac, well two Macs really.

If I go back to my G4 with OS 9 I can run all sorts of old programs such as Photoshop 3.0.

Of course the newer OS 10.5.7 on my Mac mini won't run these programs but I can swap things about happily.

Spoke to Adobe and they said as I don't have proof of purchase, they cannot help.

No folder on the disc with the magic number.

Not given up yet.

My copy of 'elements' is a standalone, the mention of upgrades on the box was in case they could persuade the buyer wanted to spend more money! It's a Mac/Windows install disc, so like I said, it's here if all else fails.....
