Identifying my car
I have purchased a MM 1000 that is titled as a 1959 Morris Minor 1000. It is a 2-door sedan and I plan to fully restore it to road condition. Only modifications to be made will be in the interest of safety and reliability. I am asking for help in identifying when it was built and if there is information available to verify that it still has the correct engine. The number on the plate under the bonnet is 9M-U-H-212902 and the number on a plate riveted to the engine is FBP 4/ 642775. Any informat will be greatly appreciated.
Hi,
Congratulations on posting your first message so long after joining the site
The chassis number shows:
F - Morris Minor
B- 2 Door saloon
P- Colour Ivory
4 - North American export
642775 - built in 1958.
Your engine is a 948cc high compression engine with a central gearchange. This is correct for a 1958/9 car.
Hope this is useful.

Firstly. Hi.. welcome to the forum.
I think you've got your numbers the wrong way around as the first is an engine number for a high compression 948 engine and the second is a chassis number for a two door saloon.
Interestingly you say the V5 puts your registration date as 1959 and your chassis number is 642775. Mine is 646679 and was registered in September 1958. Shows how long these cars sat on forecourts.
The true way of knowing when the car was built is via a heritage certificate. Some one will be along soon and let you know how to get one. It's something I've not got around to yet.
