Picked up a book today from 1960 called 'Car Care' by Castrol. There's a picture in it i thought might be of interest. The caption reads: '30 degrees below freezing for 24 hours in the Motor Industry Research Association's Cold Chamber - and this Morris started first pull on the starter with Castrolite in the sump.' Sorry the photo isn't very good quality but I don't have a scanner.

Now, how much of that was the oil?

Consider who wrote the book though! I bet it would do just as well with asda 20/50....

people were still using monogrades in those days - hence the need to publicise the benefits of a multigrade.
