Found a moggy van in the brambles

Post by Laus »

I kid you not, I was looking through some old photos with my wife yesterday when I saw a lovely old Minor Van her grandfather owned in the background of one picture - upon commenting about it she says "well its still behind the shed if you like them, probably rotted beyond recognition by now though".

So today despite the rain I went out and hacked through many metres of brambles - and there it was. It is absolutely rotten, the roof and interior have been claimed by the elements its a flimsy shell of rust and paint but there are a few salvagable bits. The battery looks immaculate "Dagemite" in yellow letters along the side.

Anyway, could not for the life of me find a number plate not leaset cos it has sunk into the mud up to its arches, but on the bulkhead was a plate which reads "Car No:OEUI/8****" - is there anyway I can find the number plate from this? If so I may claim the log book and number plate for her as a memorial of her grandpa.

Will try and take a picture next weekend, but not much left to photograph to be honest - any parts which may be salvage worthy? The Engine block looks a bit rusty in places but its all there - unlike the bodywork.

Welcome to the site Laus. Another new member with a great story. Can't help with your queries as I don't know much about LCV's but someone will be along in a minute :D

Edit: It may be useful to post your location so we know where you are (same applies to the other new members)

Try Russel Harvey if you want to get more details from an LCV chassis number - he has collected a lot of records and is very knowledgeable in this area.

My location is Carmarthen, South West Wales.

Cleaned the plate a little - says Car No:OEUI/86203

Could anyone tell me, where I can find the car's chassis number or unique identifying numbers so I can trace the reg no? Please.

The plate seems to be the chassis number.

O - indicates model of vehicle (LCV)
E - indicates type of vehicle (Van)
U -indicates the colour (dark green)
1- indicates right hand drive vehicle for UK market
86203 - car number (built in 1959)

Not sure how (or if) you can trace the registration number from a chassis number but hopefully this helps.

You can contact Russell Harvey via the Minor LCV Register: http://www.minorlcvreg.co.uk/
