My petrol pump occasionally stops working, a tap with something hard seems to get it going again.
Is it the points? Is there a quick, simple and easy remedy?

take the end off and clean the points, this may cure the problem
also u can get spare points for them, the single ones are the ones to go for

As Dennis says ^^^ - clean the points now, but do get hold of a spare set and fit them when you get the chance. I've not had any problems with double points.

Er, um, clean them with what? Fine emery cloth? Or something else?
Sorry, but I am on a pretty steep learning curve!

Fine emery paper will be ok.

I can't help noticing that ESM sell mechanical fuel pumps to fit the Marina for only £18 - do these or Mini items fit the Minor, and if so, why don't people fit them? Darn sight cheaper and simpler

yes the mech pump can be fitted, so long as the block can take the pump

And it will solve any hot weather running problems ! Two slight downsides - can't fit secret switch to it - and after the car has stood for a while - it needs churning to pump up fuel before the engine will fire. Upside of that is - at least some oil gets round the bearings before it fires! Every cloud has a silver lining.
