Question regarding door window glass and a rubber seal

Good morning everyone,

At the base of the window glass you have the metal runner for the window regulator roller. Now attached to this metal runner is a large wiper type rubber seal (there is on my car anyway), that I assume wipes up the inside of the door sheet metal.

My question is what does this wiper do? Mine are a bit rotten and I'm wondering is it worth replacing them? Would it be catastrophic if I just took them off? Or would you recommend replacement?

Thanks for reading. :D

It's a rain water deflector. It is designed as you say to wipe up the metal. The door is not well sealed at the front and, at speed, air gets inside and bashes about around the obstructions in there. Without the deflector rain would run off the bottom of the glass and some would hit the door trim card.

i have fitted plastic sheet over the holes in the door ( not the window... before any of you say) so that it keeps the water off the board

Gaffa tape works well for that job too...
