Wiper problem

Post by MarkyB »

Having finished rebuilding my engine and putting the car back together I took it for a short test drive.
Having got out of the garage and up the ramp out I decided to go round the block starting downhill.
Hadn't go very far when the engine refused to rev much above tickover.
Panic stations! It won't be able to get back up the hill to the safety of the garage.

Parked up, switched off the engine and had a look but nothing seemed untoward.
Start the engine up and have another look :o there is smoke coming off the top of the wiper motor.
Pulled the wires off and the engine runs fine again, Phew :D
Back to the garage and this is what I found:
Image
off with the top, and here is what was inside:
Image
Here is the bit that does the self parking:
Image
Can anyone come up with a cunning plan to rebuild this lot so the self park works?
There is nothing at all wrong with the motor itself and I'd rather not scrap it for the sake of 2 rusty rivets.
I know I can park them myself with nifty switch work but I'd rather get it working properly.

Also which of the two green wires connected to the motor is for the self park (one has a black tracer)

Hi Marky Im very new in fact this is my first reply I have a minor windscreen motor sitting in the garage. Ihave just replaced it with a two speed motor from a mini. As far as the wiring is concerned I believe the plain green is your power feed with the green with black tracer the self parking.I am in Worthing west sussex so not to far from you. Hope this helps

Thanks guys, I'll use it manual park for the time being.
I'd be interested to know if steel rivets have always been used as they don't seem to have faired too well.
The only issue I can see is insulating through the plate and behind the brass contact. Should be doable with plastic I think.
