Hi,
I expect this has been asked before, but without trawling through the site, I wonder if anyone knows how much a 1968 Traveller originally cost, or can direct me to a useful website (other than this one, of course!!).
I am putting together a Spec sheet for when I am at shows.
Thanks
Jim

HI

According to P Olyslager, in his Morris Minor 1000 book, a Standard was 687 and a De Lux 713, including purchase tax.

The original Invoice for my Traveller dated 20th November 1969 reads

MINOR 1000 TRAVELLER DELUXE £504-6-10
TRAFALGAR BLUE WITH BLUE GREY

STATIC SEAT BELTS £4-3-6
ANTI-FREEZE £0-9-3
FUEL 4 GALS £1-6-0

HIGH COMPESSION

PURCHASE TAX £188-7-6

TOTAL £698-13-1

This was a staff sale and I would have thought included a discount.
The invoice does state Staff Sale, but there is no mention of any discount given

a Standard was 687
£698-13-1
£11/13/1 difference.
One was a January quote, the other must have been December. :D :D :D

It wouldn't mention Staff sale on the invoice. The basic price would be the reduced price for staff, then all the extras would be added.

I was only going on personal knowledge - My Father's bill didn't mention it, and I know he was buying it using his "staff discount" Perhaps the words were missed off.

Hi don58van,
What are the differences in spec between the standard and deluxe versions.

James

Again, according to Olyslager, the De Luxe had seat cushions and squabs leather covered, with leathercloth on non-wearing parts; fresh air intake with heater unit; passenger's sun visor; and front bumper over-riders.

You might be interested to know that although Minors were built here in Oz for a couple of decades, local production didn't include Travellers. Imported Travs are highly prized (and priced) here as a result.

Don ... what's the situation with importing a minor NOW ... of all the places in the world I'd LOVE to emigrate to NZ is my favourite (all of the kiwi's I've ever met have been honest, open and innately GOOD people) but there is no way I would leave my minors behind (nor would I sell them, i'm far too emotionally attached to them)

Had to deliver a container lasr year. When it was opened, in the back, amongst the house contents, were a 54 plate Focus and Y plate Golf. The owners had moved to NZ and took the cars. They were both Quarantined and not allowed in. 6 months later, all returned. Hence the cars in the container.

Sorry, Steve - was that the people or the cars that were quarantined?
Nice thing about NZ is they drive on the civilized side of the road!

Hello Alain

I'm sorry it has taken a while to reply--I haven't checked this thread for a few days.

First, I live in Oz, not NZ. NZ is a couple of little specks off our east coast. :D Seriously, though it is a very beautiful country with very nice people.

We speak almost the same language--you might have noticed that Kiwis interchange all vowels.

I can't help much with the car import stuff, having never done it. If you are serious, I can point you to the web links where you can get all the info you need for exporting to Oz. I can probably put you in touch with some locals who recently imported a Traveller.

Both Oz and NZ have lots of Moggys (or Morrys as we call them on this side of the world). Production in Oz ceased in about '62 and in NZ '74 (they were the last to build them). And we both drive on the correct side of the road.

Cheers
