Strange Tyre Issue

Hey everyone,
So I woke up this morning to a flat rear tyre. I pumped it back up just to see what would happen and it has stayed fully inflated. I took it for a drive...still fully inflated. Any idea's why I had a flat?
Also, do I need to go to special places to get a new tyre or just head over to Budget etc??

Heh, there was a spate in my street a while back of tyres mysteriously going flat ... happened to a range of cars, often on the same night ;)
You can get anti-theft dustcaps from ebay which require a tool to remove, fitting these seemed to prevent the problem from recurring on my street.

I had some new 'posh' valve caps that pushed the valve core and would let the tyre down! They have been binned.

it never hurts to get a price locally - however the Minor traders also do tyres by mail order and could be offering a better price and/or faster delivery!

I agree, if the local place can't get them cheaper than a Minor trader, just get the trader to deliver them to your local garage. Obviously they'll charge to fit the new and dispose of your old tyres but at least you get your Minor fully booted up again.

I forget... if you go tubeless make sure they have the right size valve for your wheel. If it's an early minor you need a TR425 valve, not sure what the later ones use

I doubt you will have much success with 'Budget' - you could try Cooper Bros in Newmains. They have a classic Rover 2000 - so they do have an 'interest' in older cars.

I always get my tyres from here:

And take them to a backstreet tyre shop to have the rims balanced and the new tyres fitted and then take my old tyres to the tip.
It's a bit more 'manual' of a process but you should get a better deal overall (my local store isnt averse to a 'cash sale' .. they even forgot to charge VAT)

some refuse to take them... mine go in to orbit at the thought of you disposing of an old tyre!

They would fit in the wheely bin but thankfully I'm not the type to resort to that.
