hello all,the engine has been running on for some time,so i thaught i would set the mixture as per the book.the car was running far too rich as a result of this, and would not pull too well.pulled over and leaned it off.the car went like a train.got home ,white plugs too lean.i then wound up the mixture nut all the way to the top, went down 12 flats standard setting and down 2 more, ill go for a drive later and she how she runs.i have a 45d dizzy with electronic ignition so the engine is always in tune any ideas .

If the car was running well - then your white plugs were probably only very slightly weak - and a flat or two down would have sorted it. You should adjust the ignition timing forwards until you get a tiny bit of pinking - then back it off very slightly. Running on can just be down to petrol brand - try another brand. The Metro was prone to running on - (high compression + weak mixture) and Rover 'fixed' it by fitting an anti-run-on valve !
