Are hub adapters a good idea so that I can fit some chrome smoothies to my traveller??

Such devices are never a good idea - structural strength unknown quantity - and additional load on wheel bearings - innevitably they also increase the track and put the tyre contact patch well outside the limit.

You may also end up giving youself bump-steer, for similar reasons spacers are also a bad idea.
