What does this wee switch do??

I have been driving my traveller for a week now and have got used to all it's......erm......charms!!
I have found a wee black switch sticking down under the speedo above the lights pull switch and the ignition pull...does anyone know what it does??

If it's the one I think you mean it slides from side to side and switches the speedo back light on/off.
It only works when the lights are on, thats why it seems to have no effect when you try it!

Ah cool...thanks for that. Why would you want to switch your speedo backlight off though?? The mind boggles.

i seem to remember reading that when the car was being built that some people find the lights on distracting so you had a switch to be able to turn those distracting lights off

If rewired it can be useful as an anti theft device.

Possibly useful in the good old days when people left their sidelights on if parked on the street at night. There used to be all sorts of regs about that, I seem to recall: if you were less than so many yards from a junction etc. Showing me age... You could get round it with those little white and red parking lights people used to attach to the guttering or the top of the window; not seen one of those for years.

We've got 2 - Jon seems to collect things like that. Vikki (Traveller) still has the 2 point socket under her parcel shelf for it
