My passenger side wiper is only going half way across the window but on other occasions it will behave itself :-?. I've had a look but can't get it to behave itself all the time.

Any ideas?

Hello Matt,

it is probably that the wheel box is worn.

It is worth trying the trick of removing the rack cable, and then turn the wiper spindle (with the wiper arm removed) by 180 degrees then re insert the rack cable. This puts the wheel box gear onto new teeth, hopefully unworn?

First thing to check is that the wiper arms are tight on the spindles.
If you remove the glove box liners and turn the wipers on (squirt the washers first) you will probably see the outer casing of the rack moving about. Tighten the cable clamp screws on either side of the wheel boxes. It worked on Squiggle's car at Luton Show. If there is still slop in the motion then rotate the gear wheels 180degs. On an early SII this can be done without removing the rack.

If it's ok sometimes - likely just the fixing of the wiper arm to the spindle - have you checked that ?

Since it's only the passenger side wiper - you won't need it anyway!

It might be on the passenger side but the wear will affect the driver's side rack and gearbox

Problem only appears to be on passenger side!

Mine does the same, I put my hand behind the speedo side of the dash and felt some cable bit flopping about. I held it still and pushed it against the bulk head and the wiper worked perfectly. Yours may be the same. I just need to strap it there somehow.

It should be held tight by the clamping screws on the wheel boxes - they must have worked loose.

Problem only appears to be on passenger side!
But is caused by loose connections on the driver's side
