Headlining

hi all how do i take a headlining out of a car a fit it back in a car without riping it because i now have a brand new one

All minors in 1957 had light grey headlining.

If your cream headlining is all in one piece and not damaged then please don't bother trying to replace it for the original, it's apparently a pig of a job and only the ultimate anoraks will notice anyway

hi andy
the headling is shot as theirs more holes than a sive. its a horrible yellow colour from smokers in the past. i dont know weather to tackle the job myself. ive been quoted 400 quid. but if i give it a go my self it will cost 60 quid
how easy is this job. what do you people think i should do??????

You need a beard and grubby fingernails for starters!
£400 sounds like a very high price
, for that you can afford to try it yourself and mess it up 5 times!
Just make sure you pick a warm day, that makes it easier.

We've done it. Have a go. We replaced a '56 splitscreen headlining - not as bad as I'd heard it would be.

my worry is having to take out the rear window as ive just replaced the rubber.
do i need to take the rear window out or is their a way round it???????

We fitted the headlining after we fitted the window. Don't know whether this is correct way round but we had no problems. The back wire (threaded through the headlining seam) fitted between the metal of the car and the rubber of the window seal without any fuss and is tensioned down to 2 screws which in turn are hidden by the back lower window surround. Just don't do it in this heat as you really need 2 people to do this (with all seats removed) and its a bit cramped!
