Hi. One of my cars might have a problem with 4th gear which every now and again slips out of gear. Is this serious (gearbox replacement) or relatively easy to fix ?

Mine does the same if you accelerate too hard or are climbing a hill, its fine otherwise would be nice to know whats causing it/ how it can be fixed

Could be worn bearings but likely to be wear to the dog teeth on 4th gear & sliding hub causing them to separate under load. Baring no other problems would need a new 1st motion shaft ,sliding hub & syncro if that's the fault or a replacement box

Probably a lot easier just to replace the box

The dog teeth etc on 4th gear NEVER wear - it's a sign of serious bearing wear - search for another box asap! You can then swap over - and overhaul your box at your leisure!
