Just been sent this:

Subject: FW: All Mobile Numbers now on a new directory enquiries database!

Apparently, there is new directory enquiries database being set up that becomes live “tomorrow” that allows “anyone” to get hold of your personal mobile numbers and call you (including sales people who could plague you with nuisance calls). If you do not want to be part of this you can have you number removed by either going onto the following web site below or alternatively ringing 0800 138 6263 to have your number removed.

The Directory of Mobile Phone numbers goes live next week.
All numbers including those belonging to children will be open to cold calling.

To remove your number go here.

No its not a scam but neither is the email above accurate. A company has set up a mobile database and will connect calls to mobiles but will not give out your number. You can choose to take the call or reject it. I also understand that mobile numbers of children are not included on the database and you need to know the name and address of the person you want the number for anyway so cold calling not really an option either....

Hello all,

I really don't see what the fuss is about. Static telephones have had their numbers and address listed which has been accepted by most. You can be ex directory of course, but most are not. I chose to register with the agency that makes sales calls to my home phone virtually nil.

Just what is the difference?

I have an easy system for this - I never switch my mobile ON! It's only for me to make outgoing calls in an emergency - I have no interest in incoming calls.

Do you not realise the opportunities you have missed?? All those calls that begin "congratulations, you have just won...." and you will never be able to claim the prize/fortune because your phone is switched off

Sign up to the Telephone Preference Service and they can be prosecuted for calling you.
