Hey Guys...
Am going to try and install the dynamo on my moggie...
am quite scarred... a little nervous... have read the manual
and think i should be okay... possibly....

however, how do i know if my moggie is positively or negatively
earthed??

and do you have any other tips for doing the job well!!
LOL

Also should i change the brake switch on my own or wait for
some one with some idea to help me...

am so sorry for all the silly questions...
husband not very mechanically minded!!

oh and another thing - where do i find the globe for the speedo...
had a look today and couldnt really tell where it went...
i think i could tell where the other two lights for the oil and ignition
were but not the actual speedo...

thanks heaps

karen

If the car already has a dynamo fitted - it's just a case of undoing the 2 bolts and one nut (fater taking the two wires off) - removing the old dynamo - and then fitting the new with the same bolts. Disconnect the battery before you start to prevent fires. Look at the battery terminals - one of them is connected to a wire that is bolted to the frome of the car - that's the earth wire! So - if it's the +ve terminal, then the car is +ve earth.
Speedo bulbs (globes!) are plugged in the back of the speedo - probably easiest to take out a glovebox liner to get access. Before you do that - are the speedo lights actually switched ON ? There is a little slide switch under the front edge of the dash - slide this to put the lights on - but they only glow when the side lamps are on.

The nuts and bolts that hold the top should be 1/2 AF (or 13 mm) the nut on the adjuster is 9/16th (or 14mm) probably better to use a socket on this as it is on the bottom front of the engine and may be obscured by the fan belt.

If you can't get enough slack to get the fan belt off then you may need to loosen the 1/2 AF bolt that holds the adjuster to the bottom of the dynamo. This will have to be undone and the adjuster put on the new dynamo.

Remove the bottom nut 1st when removing and when putting the new one on put the top bolts in 1st but don't tighten the up until everything else is in place.

When you are adjusting the fan belt tension on the new set up use the handle of a hammer or a large screw driver to pull the dynamo up but remember that there must be some slack in the belt (1/2 inch from memory).
Tighter than that isn't better.
