What is my 1275 engine out of?

Post by katy »

Can anyone tell me year and type of vehicle that engine # 12V/671Z/L8989 came out of.
Would like to get tune-up specs for it, spark plug type, gap, timing, etc.
TIA, Ken

If you can post a photo of it I'm sure the eagle-eyed on here will know if it's Midget, Marina, Ital etc. Things like oil filter position and mechanical fuel pump are common identifying features but I'm no expert.

I imagine they all use the same plugs (I use the same in my 1275 Sprite engine as my 1098 Minor) and ignition timing is best set to just avoid pinking rather than use a book figure for 1970's fuels anyway.

The pdf I got tells me it's from a Sprite Mk4/ MG Midget Mk3 after October 1972.

It says that your engine was built for the N. American Market. Would that be right?

Thanks for the info on the engine.

That's correct. As far as I know the Morris has been in Canada all it's life. The engine may have come from either Canada or the US. The people we purchased the car from had owned it about 15 years, but didn't know much about it's previous history. :o
