Just a thought but if youve got

An escort axle.
ford type 9 gear box
Jonathons superb front suspension
a midget engine
a not unreasonable set of mods then according to SVA rule you would only score 7 points not the required 8 and therefore require an SVA test which would be interesting to say the least on a minor.

From their web site

Chassis or bodyshell (body and chassis as one unit -monocoque) (original or new)*..............................................5
Suspension (front & back)......................................................2
Axles (both)..............................................................................2
Transmission.............................................................................2
Steering assembly......................................................................2
Engine.................................................................................... ...1

total required to be considered 'original 8

I bet we have some out there that are already borderline.

IF this was a complete rebuild of a car, from a bodyshell - and you were applying for re-registration, this could be true. But mods done to an existing registered car will not require it to be SVA tested.

only certain mods are allowed, if you don't comply with points system you'll be off for biva(sva replacement)

lots of info on ace website.

If a car has been modified for years and log book shows the same details as the MOT tester finds, then legislation can't be retrospective.

Exactly. On going work can't be faulted - provided it is roadworthy of course!

There is a question about this on the Retro Rides forum and apparently they can be retrospective which is a very worrying thought.

Just as well I've got a friendly MOT man. I've one Minor that was modded in 1990, and the other in 1972

I was told that modifications that pre-date the SVA system are not acted on retrospectively (unless the car is re-modified). However as most modified car's wont have been left alone for over 20 years, that probably doesn't help.
