Another MOT down

Post by wiglaf »

Sleipnir has gone through her MOT with minimal work needed - numberplate light, windscreen washer pump, tiny things... nice for it to come in on-budget: there's a first time for everything!

Now to get down to the other bits of work I've been going to get 'round to all winter once I pick her up from the garage tomorrow: speedo to go off to JDO; fitting those scuttle panels that have been sitting on the garage shelf for the last 6 months; repainting the wheels...

Then arranging to get an unleaded head put on, and fitting the stereo I ripped out of last summer's awful Punto that was supposed to be a run-about while I sorted the Morris (as if that happened!) before it went on the scrap heap... anyone know if it's possible to fit 6x9s in anywhere sensible?

I wonder how long the positive, up-and-at-'em feeling will last?

Why send off the speedo - that will be v expensive! What's wrong with it - what type do you need? And - unless planning many hard miles on the Motorway - an unleaded head is NOT required - nor is any 'additive'!
But well done on the MOT!!

Oh god, well doneon yours but brings to mind that mine is due end of the month! Stupid time to go on holiday if you ask me!
It is possible to fit 6x9's in the kidney panels if you fit a spacer, thats where i have mine and they sound pretty tidy!

Sending speedo off because... it reads high by 35%, and is rather sticky even on a new cable (plus we've tried a spare and that's fine, so it *should* be the speedo that's the problem), and I want to keep the mileage. Plus it's only £45, which is less than buying a speedo from a parts dealer, and the only ones that seem to turn up on ebay are for different diffs etc. (typically off rather newer minis) rather than my charming unaltered 948 setup: if I were up to altering one to be accurate in Sleipnir, I'd be up to fixing the one I've got! Yeah, I've spent far too long looking at this: about a year since I first asked on here I think...

And the head's an issue not because of planned motorway mileage, but past motorway mileage: travelling to far off places last year and the one before is finally taking its toll - I lack compression and resetting the gaps will only work so many times (so best do it now, while I'm flush after a surprisingly cheap MOT than later, when I've frittered the saving away).

Thanks for the common-sensed concern though bmc!

Callyspoy, I sympathise entirely! I'm actually thinking of getting her done again in November, because I'm away from home most weekends in summer to go to reenactment events and having it fall in June is *really* inconvenient..
