I'm looking to fit a cherry bomb to my exhaust to add a little rod to my mog. There are two cherry bombs available: a back box and an inline muffler, I'd like to fit the back box as it has a nice chrome exit.
I'm confused though as to how fitting a back box will effect the sound of my exhaust...
As I understand it the cherry bomb was developed for hot rodders as a road legal alternative to straight pipes, and now people replace their back box with a cherry bomb, thus removing the muffling effect of the back box. The Morris though has one muffler and no back box, so my question is, will fitting a cherry bomb back box make any difference to my exhaust sound?
I assume that replacing the current muffler with an inline cherry bomb would be an MOT failure?
Any thoughts on this would be appreciated.

p.s. Does anyone know off hand the exterior diameter of the standard morris exhaust? (my Morris and vernier gauge are a long way from where I am at the mo!)
If you add a back box - the exhaust will be quieter ! You could remove the standard silencer - and fit straight pipe there, adding the bomb at the rear. In fact this was very much a standard conversion in the 60's - using a Sprite Mk1 'straight through' silencer at the rear!
Probably not - the MOT just says the noise should not be excessive - it's really up to the tester on the day. My standard exhaust has lost all it's internal 'stuffing' - and it's very loud at full throttle - and it still passed the MOT a few weeks ago.
Ive got three cherry bombs on mine(fiat twin cam) and it is somewhat noisy! I was suprised as i thought it would be quieter as there are 3 silencers but no!
I would do as bmc says though a bit more throat without excesses!
