A spare Goldseal gearbox I have - has a date stamped on the casting - at the boss where the clutch pivot sits. So question is - do all boxes have dates stamped when they were made - or is this the date when it was re-manufactured and 'Goldsealed' ? The date is 11 7 67 - and it's a ribbed case box - in excellent internal condition!

I would think that it was the original manufacture date. The geabox casing would not have been re cast when it was rebuilt.
Series MM cylinder heads also have a casting date on them as do dynamos and starter motors

The number is just 'typed' on the casing - and I agree - it's likely to be the original date - since 67 is not that far into ribbed case production, I feel unlikely they would be 'gold sealing' them that early!
