Type 9 geabox filler & oil

Hi All,
I had a Ford type 9 fitted last year and it's getting a bit 'crunchy' when cold, fine when hot, so suspect it needs oil.
Does anyone know where the filler is on these? how to access after a conversion (the supplier used the Birmingham morris centre kit with the fibre glass cover), what type of oil?
Thanks
Alan

Passenger side of g'box, 10mm allen key and use semi-synthetic gear oil NOT engine oil or EP 80.
Ask at your local motor factor for the correct oil or ring Birmingham M Centre

The difficult bit is getting the old oil out as there is no drain bung. you could suck it out the filler but I'm not sure if there's room to get a decent sized pipe into the box from there to do this but it would be worth trying that first. With the floor removed you could remove the top cover from the box & suck it out from there . or you could disconnect the prop but not all the old oil will drain out. other than that the box would need removing & tipping up on end
Ive used a semi synthetic 75w80 oil in mine

The gear change is very stiff or you cant move the stick at all!
Gearbox takes about 1.25l of semi synthetic, I have 75w80 in mine too

Oops better get that EP80 out of there then. I haven't used the gearbox on the road yet so hopefully there will be no long lasting damage. Thanks for the help, Jeff

My LT77 box is quite 'sticky' when cold on EP80 oil - the original recommended oil type. Seems these days it's common to use MTF oil in that box - and a much smoother change is promised! I've yet to try it - not having so far managed to win the Lotto - to be able to buy the hyper expensive oil!
