Can you tax a car using the new keeper supplement, or do you need the whole V5?

OK to do it at the Post Office but not online as the computer won't have caught up....

If you do it online the tax disk is likely to go to the old keeper - or it will reject your attempt, based on the insurance details not matching registered keeper details.
So what have you bought??

New keeper slip OK but don't fall into the same problem as I had last year with the MGB in that DVLA records not up todate re. previous keeper.
Make sure the V5 shows the name (& address) of the person you are buying off, unless from a dealer, otherwise DVLA will need to confirm with PO that it's alright to register in your name. This can take weeks and in mean time the car cann't be used if untaxed as no way around the system.

As it is, that car has fallen through now, apparently someone offered him £50 more than I did - after we had agreed the sale. Got my eye on a slightly hotter hatch now...
