Hi all

I am about to send off my convertible shell for restoration and i am wondering if the shell has any different panels in the way of strengthing from the normal 2 & 4- door shells?

Totally different to the 4 door.

Largely the same as the 2 door, however there are strenghening pieces between the dash and the A panel (roughly triangular, but with a curved edge - if that makes sense!)

In terms of invisible stuff, theres an extra layer of steel along the inside of the inner sill. Theres also not likely to be a courtesy light switch in the A posts

Where are you sending it 'off' to??

Theres also a tapered channel section from the top of the sill step up the B post. About 2" wide at the bottom tapering to nothing about 1/2 way up the b post.

No probs. Its a shame no one makes the channel section that goes in the sill any more. Henric used to do these, and even spot weld them onto the floor/sill step ready to go. The L shaped version sold for the conversion kits does the job pretty well, but thats intended for going on the inside of the sill step (assuming you're converting an already sound car and dont need to do sill surgery).

Isn't this is the same section that is fitted in early traveller sill sections? If it is then Morris Minor Centre (Birmingham) sell it.

Yes it is the same as the traveller sill stiffeners, I didn't know that Birmingham Minor Centre hed them, presumably its a Sri Lankan panel as Hadrian dont acknowledge the existance of these. Thnaks for that, it may save me making them next time I need some....

Yes, they are Sri-Lankan.
I had a problem on the off-side, in that the floor section had a different curve to the sill strengthener which caused a few hours of extra fitting and grinding. But all going together now.

young Rich took the shell away last Friday (17th) he has sent me some photos of it in the bodyshop where i teach and on its way east.

Could someone let me know how you post photos as i would be delighted to keep members up to date.

I think Rich will be getting stuck in, in a few weeks time, then its get the credit card out for the many, many parts!!

To post photos, when posting a message just click on the 'browse' button to the right of the 'upload picture' box, underneath the text box. You will then be able to select a photo directly from your pc. If uploading more than one photo just press the 'preview' button each time you post a photo. Then press 'submit' to post your message. Easy when you know how
