front end brake/steering/ king pin unit swap

Hello, is it possible to swap out the front end of a 1964 1100cc morris convertible 4 door into a 1954 traveller?

Yes....

The difference is that the early car will have 7" drums as opposed to the 8" drums of the later car (a very worthwhile upgrade)

Although ideally the master cylinder should be changed too - slight difference in diameter - I think it will still be ok on the 1954 master.

Thanks Lads, Is there no end to the wealth of knowlegde on the forum?? The more I think about it the more I like the idea of safety and reliability. I'm off to secure the deal on this "64" parts convertible this weekend. It sounds like the upgrade is a good direction to follow. The replacement parts availability and economy is certainly better as well as far as the reading I've done on my side. When I get the bits home and sorted through, I'll post a message as to body parts etc. that will be surplus if anyone needs whats there.

I can confirm that the early MC works fine with the 8" drums, the stroke is slightly longer but still functions perfectly well (we had that arrangement by accident in the old 64 trav...)

A 64 convertible is a rare car Mike? I'm new to morris minors, but the only two vehicles that I've had the opportunity to buy were really the ones that appeal to me anyway. I hate changing original stuff but my traveller has already been changed. I was shocked however to hear that your man had cut the convertible up!! Changing mechanical bits can be reversed but chopping bodies for backyard frankinstein projects is downright cruel...Anyway.

It's the 4 DOOR point that makes it extremely rare. Factory only produced 2 door convertibles!

With my track record on this forum bmc, I'm probably wrong about the 4 door option. I'll be betting on the fact that the car has 2 doors just by what you've said.

It's always possible it had 4 doors! But - I think some gentle leg-pulling going on here!
