Can't see any connection there! Have to wonder why it 'backfired' though - which is caused by unburned fuel igniting in the exhaust - and has probably blown the baffles as you say - in the silencer. Engine idling - briefly put hand over tailpipe while some checks for leaks - but it will just be the baffles have loosened.

hi BM yes I must agree the baffles I think have either come loose or blown, in which case it must mean a new exhaust system, would that be right as it is too noisy to drive as it is.

My baffles went a while ago (no jokes please!) and if you go fast enough the noise is left far behind !!

If the baffles arte loose, tap the silencer with a hammer. Sometimes this can tighten them

or a long self tapping screw through the silencer can also re fix the baffles in place.

Usally they are just spot welded in. If they are loose they will fall to the lowest point so a screw up the middle from underneath should grab hold of it - There is a repair piece about doing this in the workshop manual.....

I have put a large 'G' clamp on silencers - not very pretty but it does stop them moving!
