Have a look at the pics.

If you look in all pictures you'll see a little switch to the right of the choke underneath the dash, I know there's a screw missing but does anyone know what it's for?

Cheers,

Dan

P.s. Sorry anyone who's read this twice... should have split it in the first place & put the "Choke pull" bit in wanted on it's own.... :-?

I haven't looked at the pics - its telling me the page is unavailable, but I think you'll find its the panel lights switch. If you slide it across, the instrument lights should go out, or come on if you haven't had any before!

Hmm, it's letting me view it ok.
Thought it might be something like that, I tried it earlier & nothing went bang... Wasn't dark then though!

Just tried it... You're right of course.... Seems a bit of an unnecessary addition though. Doesn't add much to the car :D

Talking of lights I managed to get a short through the interior light the other day, just sucked all the power out of the battery, I've had to take the bulb out now... before that it wouldn't switch off, even though the switched wires were definitely disconnected at the switch. Problems with the door switches perhaps??
There's a Mag lite under the dash to perform search duties at the moment...

Heh ... looks like a kill-switch to me ... what happens when you flick it while the engine is running (car not moving)

Alain you should have one on your Moggie as well for turning off your dash panel lights as Alistair said.

Mine has been removed and replaced with something else ;)

What I dont understand is why you would want to switch off your dash lights?

To conserve power when idling at junctions with your sidelights on and your dynamo not charging! Although the dash lights are not THAT much of a drain!

Plus some people might not like lights on inside the car while driving (too much of a distraction) although I can't see it myself...........

someone else before has suggested that as you can leave the car with sidelights switched on as parking lights, that switching off the dashlights for this would reduce battery drain

Yes, from the good old days when people used to consider parking lights if they were parked in an unexpected place in the dark. :-D

These days people park where they like, regardless of safety. (Ray remembers having whiplash after an accident caused by people parking right around a junction)

A few weeks ago I had a big whinge at a driver who parked on double yellows at a busy blind corner.
I'm sure she thought I was an ogre, but she did move her car - so I felt justified in the fact that no-one ended up injured, whilst she made her visit to the post office...
even if she did have to suffer walking 30 meters back from the nearest available space.
