shocker fluid
to top up mm shocks can I just use straight auto trans fluid or do you have to drain old stuff out first . cheers
Dampers !!! Best to drain out the old (which is likely thin and very smelly!) - then flush through at least once with the new fluid of your choice - and finally refill, with frequent bouncing to eliminate all the air! Leave a small space at the top - and check again after a week and again after a month topping up as necessary. The more viscous the oil - the better the damping! Standard would be SAE20 oil - better is SAE 30 or 40. Engine oil is fine - or trans fluid. Doesn't matter. I have used EP90 - in my rally Minor - but don't really suggest that for a 'road' car! Good idea to check all mounting bolts are nice and 'snug' while you are doing the job.
