I just put this picture up which comes from the Morris microfiche.
What is the little u bolt shown between the wishbones? It look like number '4' which isn't listed in the key on the right of the diagram.
Any one ever seen it?<br>

When a map is published or a dictionary they often include something that does not exist. It is to combat copying. If you produce another map with this fictitious detail then you have copied a copyright item. Could it be this maybe.

I had that on an old post office van.
There were 2 that bolted into a flat plate.
Might have been a place to put a jack without slipping?

How 'old'? I've noticed some differences with the vans, like front towing eyes. Is this an age thing of just another LCV difference...

that U bolt was indeed to put a jack under, and was only on po and gpo vans
the towing wye at the front was on all vans and pickups
i will come back with some later

Yes, don't you remember the recent debate here, about what way up it went?

So - how will it work with the jack then - if the plate is on top??

ok
there are 2 U bolts, and the shelley bottle jack fitted in between the 2 u bolts
if it was the other way round the jack would be on the plate and nuts, which would not be so good

Weeelllll - I'm not convinced! Surely the jack would be better bearing on the nice flat plate? And was there another location at the rear axle - for the jack to be used there ?

well convinced or not that was the way it was done
nothing at the back

As previously mentioned, I put mine with the plate underneath, my jack fits nicely between the 4 nuts (which locate the jack head firmly) but I'm quite happy to accept that it should be the other way round.

The plate goes at the top so that the jack sits between the u bolts which stops it slipping along the lower suspension arm. I had the jacking points on my GPO van and I also retrieved a set from a GPO van in a scrappies which I have fitted to the MM. Next job is to get another set made up for the Traveller. Its a vast improvement on the manufacturer's jacking point

i had a post office van that had that arrangement on the arms
some time later i picked up an old works manual that had been used for the post office at the transport garage it had lots of what could only be described as up grades for the post vans .
put out by the post office engineering department
covering things like shock absorber bolts coming loose/ work specification mt 4/6.
to prevent the ingress of mud and water into the rear brake drums
to prevent cracking of cab floor , moving the front number plate to new position to prevent damage caused by striking verges and high curbs .
all mods come with detailed drawings
if any one is interested it this info i will be happy to copy and send it on to you ..

This post office manual sounds like real gold! "Mud and water in the rear drums", and "striking verges and high curbs" with the front number plate are perrenials problems for me.
So I'd love a copy. But rather than you go to lots of trouble to copy it and despatch it, is it possible for it to be put up somewhere for us to down load? (I know nothing about these techniques, but I'm sure someone will be along it a moment to advise.)
And put your name on the top so we don't forget you as the benefactor!
Regards, MikeN.
