Could someone who knows these cars comment on this vehicle please?

Price, problems with the breed, etc. I shall be taking a look later in the week (with a mate who would like to buy) so I can check the external condition, have a drive etc but a few tips as to where the problems may be hiding would be much appreciated.

Roger Rust is your man on these.... Looks expensive to me but then again I am known for been tight :-) Castle rails rust out and can kill a car in the same way that the cills and crossmember can on a Moggie. Other than that its all the usual rust traps.....

rebuilt about 20 over the years.Forget mechanics very basic and easy to repair and very available. Rot is the enemy,Put your hand under the front wing and see if the weather shield is in place,if not then the ends of the sill and top of the inner wing will have rotted out, there was no underseal on this area.Look very closely at the outersill where it meets the rear panel and the front wing. There should be NO sign of a joint, the sill is a one piece which is welded up inside the rear wing and front wing.Often oversills are stuck on but to do the job properly you have to take off the front wing and cut off half of the rear back wing to get at the sill ,which is the main stiffener for the whole car. There should be a visible joint where the front wing meets the scuttle, with a rolled former,if there is no joint or an obvious line put in filler with a knife, then the ends of the scuttle will have been filled up.Put your hand inside the apatures on the inside of the inner wing at the top and see if there is any rust in this area since it usually speads back into the foot wells, The rest is as moggies, floor, spring hangers .The main area is the sills which are a complicated struckture comprising inner outer under and central membrane much like the moggies but beefier. In a rush now will repost later.

Looks a bit over priced to me.

My advice is to look for a '72 tax exempt one.

The MGOC site often has nice ones in its classified adds.

Kennatt has identified the places to look.

Way way overpriced, I sold my mgbgt last year with 10months test and in very good nick for £1800, factory recon engine by prev; owner and it was tax free
As Roger says look out for a tax free one, most of the other things you asked have been covered.
Image
Just make sure you can fit into an MGB! I found my head was stuck above the screen on mates B - so I bought a TR7 instead! Plenty of room in there for my 6'2" - and the seat's not right back.
