Having covered the subject of rubber hoses not seeming to last as they used to I decided to install silicon items instead. These last indefinately so are a welcome addition as we like to take our Minor to the Continent and as a leak is potentially a big problem not least because loosing anti-freeze means a less efficient cooling system and rapid iron oxide (rust) build up in the cooling system.
These hoses are readily available and by a simple method I have devised a Mini bottom hose can be made to work successfully in place of the Minor item with no mods to the radiator.
Are the silicon ones not all in hidious colours though?

Here's a pic of the engine bay.Admittedly they are bright blue but as the car is also blue I think they go quite well.I can understand the veiwpoint that they might clash horribly with other colours. They are also available in Black, red, green, purple and yellow. As they are very pliable their leak resistance on joints is very good.

Has the carb got a heating pipe? or is that a fuel line protection?

Hi, Manifold is heated and the pipe I think you are referring to is the breather from the flame trap.A tasteful combination of silicon and copper. As I am a heating engineer pipework has to look "right".
Thanks for comments.
