Series II wing differences...

Hello, I've got a 1955 series II and I know the front wings are different to the later cars due to the sidelights (I had to modify the later wings to suit) but I'm wondering about the rear wings - are there any subtle differences between them and the later rear wings?
I can only find one type of rear wing available so I'm assuming it must be the same or else the later ones are slightly different but fit anyway?
Many thanks!

You have to modify the rear wings to get the high cut wheel arch which yours should have. Also the rear lights are different so you may have to mod that area too.

You can buy the early style wings, but they are dearer as heritage have to "modify" the later type like PSL184 says. Or you can go the cheaper route and salvage some scrap ones from MMOC club spares.

The rear wing on a MM & s11 is much narrower at the top of the wing, heres a pic from ESM site.

Hi, thanks for that. I've been looking on the ESM site and on Bull Motif at replacement wings and they both mention 'genuine heritage' on some of the wings.
Does this mean that they are genuine 'new old stock'? or are they just the regular pattern wings which have been modified to be as good as the originals (which pattern panels seem not to be)?
I've got pattern front wings and although the headlights do fit, there is a horrible lip showing, especially on the n/s. would 'genuine heritage' wings fit any better around the headlight area do you think?
Thanks
Damian

Heritage is an organisation set up to maintain the supply of panels (and some bodyshells) for classic cars. Where possible they use the original tooling - but they are not 'genuine' original spares.

Damian, the front wings are pretty much the same, what ever car they came off. The only difference is the holes the hockey sticks and fixing bolts bolt through and the position of the side lights. If you manage to get hold of some decent Leyland/BMC used ones.. (ebay is a good place), a little bit of fibreglass, filler and a drill will make the later wings fit your car.

Using an angle grinder fitted with an abrasive pad, it's amazing what you can do with a £10 wing. ;)
Keep an eye on ebay, early wings do appear I bought two for a tenner, they now look as good as new.
If the wings you have on bolt off ok, you may be better off repairing them using the same method. Clean all the rust off, you can then either weld a patch on underneath any of the large holes, splodge some fibregalss in from the front and just filler to finish. For small holes just fibreglass from the back and filler from the front.
