I just wondered if anyone had found a source for the blue/grey engine paint used on Series MM and early Series II vehicles? I've been looking through suppliers but haven't found any yet.

Sure it's not just faded out green ? But I'm happy to be corrected! I know little of the early cars having jumped straight from Morris 8E to Minor 1000.

Sidevalve units started off grey, then went to light blue, some were painted red then eventually to the normal green that was common for all A series Minor engines....

The most common colour is a light blue/grey. I will try to find out if anyone has a spare tin to get a paint code.

Thanks very much! And BMCEcosse it did have a green engine, but I really like the blue grey the sidevalve and early Series II engines had, as mine is an early '53 it would be fitting.

Ah well - I always assumed it was just faded green! My old Morris 8Es had the side valve engine - but as far as i remember - they were not painted - just rust coloured!

I have been in contact with the archive department at Gaydon and there is nothing in the records about the colour of engine paint used. The only mention was the use of green paint at the end of Series MM production.
From paint samples for the blue grey colour a close match appears to be Trimmite code BS 4800, Tint 16C37, Reef Green
Any more information on the subject is welcome.

Why don't you contact Judge - he may well have photos of the right engine bay showing the correct colours?

I will be seeing him on Monday so I am sure the subject will be dicussed.
There are several good photos of engines in "Original Morris Minor" but without knowing the colour it still leaves the problem of finding a modern equivalent

I found information about engine paint by Frost. But not the blue grey color in accordance with the engine in “Original Morris Minor”
