they have stretched, widened but not chopped AFAIK

It has been done. A supercharged traveller with a 2 inch roof chop was featured in Minor Monthly March 2007 edition - see link attached. I think it's the green one on the front cover (click on the cover photo to enlarge) as the windscreen doesn't look right:
