Hi all
Does anyone the paint colour that's used on the wheels of a black 1958 saloon? It's currently a sort of almond colour, but wasn't sure if this was faded white or was actually the correct colour.
Thanks

I think the correct colour for your car would be Old English White (white/cream), but any cream spray will do from any DIY chain. People even paint them using housepaint. Give them a good sand down first and use a primer to give it a good key.

According to “The Worlds Supreme Small Car”, the 1958 models used the ’57 colours with a few exceptions on the LCV front. Therefore a Black Saloon should have wheels and grille of Birch Grey. It looks like it’s only the Black cars that have the grey grille, the Dark Green and Turquoise cars having body colour.
There are other things mentioned like the ‘tarred’ boot and the use of black instead of brown dash-board buttons, but they would depend on when your car was produced in ‘57
Hope that helps.

I didn't mean it like that....
I'm only reading from the book. What worries me about the book are comments like this, "Birch Grey discontinued on passenger models". Are there such things as 'non-passenger models'??? Is there, somewhere, a single seated Minor hidden in a barn without Birch Grey paint work....????
I'm guessing they mean non LCV's but they do have a passenger seat...
Interestingly it looks like Old English White replaced Birch Grey and Pale Ivory in '61. Bull don't stock Birch Grey either so looks like OEW is the way to go, depends on the level of "originality" you want, and how good the eyes of anyone looking at your car are.

No single seaters to my knowledge

be a bit narrow!!
I agree with you - brain not in gear. We've got a '56 which had original green painted wheel!Doh! Some LCV's didn't have a passenger seat - can't remember if it was Post office or GPO.
Having read the production records at Gaydon it is very confusing. It takes a lot of cross referencing to get a clear picture of what went with what for the year, then it's different from a Standard to a DeLuxe

Everything changed in Oct '56 when they changed from a Ser.II to a 1000 with the single windscreen.

Birch grey was used a bit later on (late 57 and 58) for wheels and grille. It was replaced by Pearl Grey for 59 and 60 which than was replace by OEW in 1961. Pale Ivory and/or cream was early Series III and may have been used for wheels/grille. Not sure off hand

My '58 saloon is Pale Ivory, so it's a colour close to my heart...

it was post office vans that had no passenger seat
not many colours for lcv`s
some were just factory primer, and the customer had them painted the colour of their choice or company colours
