hi, I took my carb' off to get my cous' to check it , needle etc. and when I came to put it back on it located and fixed ok, except I know the pedal return spring fits onto the manifold but where on the carb does the other end fix ? also the accelerator cable is pushed through the pin on the carb and the nut is tightened up how much slack should I take up or should it tighten the nut once the pedal return spring is fixed on. I forgot to make a note of the exact positions of the cable and spring so some help would be great, One day I'll get my thinking head on and everything will be ok.

Good picture there! Yes - you will need to adjust the cable clamp so there is a little slack - after the carb is installed and the spring fitted.

OK I now know but would I be ok to put the spring on the pin first and then adjust the cable by pulling up the excess from the pedal and then tightening the nut to clamp the cable ? bearing in mind that if I do that then there will be no play between the pedal and cable.

I'm liking the number plate on your other photo

You 'pull up the slack' from the carb - not from the pedal, and then allow a tiny bit of loose before tightening the clamp.

That spring looks a bit heavy duty for an accelerator cable spring. Are you sure you haven't got a clutch return spring?

I think it's just 'new' - looks about right strength. But the excess cable should be tucked round away from the spring - otherwise it can 'catch' the spring on release and cause a high idle speed.

Tom -
Mike - I thought the same thing as it looked considerably different than the one I replaced. But it was purchased as a throttle return spring and it certainly works well enough.
BMC - thanks for that - I'll tuck it away.
