tyres: go for 155x14?

Hi,

I had a puncture and the tyre is ruined. I've been trying to find a replacement 145/80x14 but they are very hard to find from local shops. Apparently 155/80x14 are easier to find.

Can I get 155/80x14 tyres mounted on the standard rims? Are they bigger in diameter?

Regards

They'll fit. I've got 155's all round. Apparently the handling is slightly sharper with 145's but many owners use 155's on standard rims.

They are bigger in diameter (theoretically 16mm) so you shouldn't mix 145's and 155's, though having 145's on the front and 155's on the back would be OK (until you get another puncture and fit the wrong size spare).

There's a thread about tyres here:

They are fine - bit big for the rims - but in my view a better bet than the skinny 145s.

I always use 155s on standard Series MM wheels.

I'm on 155's too - even got some of the most maligned Nangkangs which have a very similar tread pattern to the original crossplys. I find them fine for "normal" Minor use....

They no longer use the old block style tread but a more modern tread pattern similar to the bridgestone tyre!
