Electric washer pump
Having just tried to fit an electric washer pump today with very little success I was wondering if anyone knew if there was a kit out there...

I fitted an ordinary electric washer pump which screws onto the engine compartment bulkhead near the fuel pump with the washer bottle next to it. I used a light switch to replace the wiper switch and wired the wiper feed into the side light terminal and the washers into the headlight terminal. Result 1st click gives wipers and 2nd click gives wipers and washers.

For my saloon I fitted an electric pump from Halfords, separate unit fitted next to the washer bottle, with a little extra pipe. I then dissected my 'Tudor' washer pump, drilled and fitted a 'push to make' switch, from Maplin Electronics, to the original bellows with a large washer to stop the switch being pushed into them. I fed two wires through the old pipe connectors on the back of the pump and re-assembled it. I then wired up the new washer pump with it's 'Tudor' switch and it works when you push it. No need to pump it any more.
What you end up with is an authentic looking manual pump switch which operates an electric pump.
I've also modified a Triumph 1360 washer pump in the same way.
Looks great and works like a charm.

My Tudor unit had a bracket that holds it under the dashboard between the steering column and the heater.
If the problem is the pump running with no water it could be a number of things. The pipes the wrong way around as mentioned above, a split pipe, an air lock, a dodgy pump, the list goes on....

I see your point BMC, but I prefer the steady jet I get with an electric pump. It's also less distracting to use, as you only have to press it lightly once and not continuously pump it. Another reason I’ve heard of is the elimination of the chance of a water leak behind the dashboard from the washers as all of the pipe work is under the bonnet and it's only one wire that goes through the bulk-head. Not that I’ve had the washer water cause any issues inside a car before now.

A slight change to the washer / wiper wiring. The wipers are live feed to the motor and the switch is on the earth wire, therefore the washers need to be wired the same. this can be achieved by running the live wire to the pump from the fuel pump terminal and the earth from the washer pump to the switch. The switch will then be wired as follows:-
Term 4 to earth
Term 8 to washer pump
Term 1 to wiper motor
Term 4 to earth
Term 8 to washer pump
Term 1 to wiper motor
