Midget Manifolds

Is it possible and easy to fit a midget performance manifold to a 1098 MM, does it increase performance and can you use a whole midget system or just the manifold?Just seems to be loads around and really cheap, even in SS.

Are you are talking about a LCB manifold as I have not heard of the midget one being used and it would depend on the exhaust diameter, I think the 1275cc midget has an 1 1/2" exhaust against the Minors 1 1/4" so the system would require altering. The simplest to use would be the combined mini 1000 manifold as it has the same size exhaust system so it just bolts in and it takes the larger 1 1/2" carb.

The Midget 3-branch exhaust manifold does not fit the Minor as the engine bay exit is different. It fits the engine though!

I'll second Cam on that one. it's the first thing I bought to modify my mog. I sold it on ebay with a 150% profit margin.

So the midget one fits the engine but will not exit the engine bay in the right place. Would that not be the same for a 1275 mini manifold as the engine is transverse? So, is the only option for a performance manifold a one specially designed for a minor or can another model be used?

Your original question relates to a LCB Long Centre Branch manifold for a Midget which will not fit nor the Mini version, but there is a version designed for the Minor ( around £100:00 ) but will require a new exhaust system to match ( around £120:00 ) and then you still need an inlet manifold and carb to suit.
Both the Standard 1275cc manifold from the Midget and the Mini will fit the cylinder head as they are the almost exactly the same size as the minor one however both are designed for an 1 1/2" exhaust pipe so a new system is required again, but a Mini 1000cc is the exactly the same size and fits straight onto the minor system its just the inlet size that is opened up so that an 1 1/2" carb is fitted as standard against the Minors 1 1/4" and will fit straight on the minor exhaust system.
How much do you want to spend ?
A second hand mini 1000cc manifold with carb can be bought for around £20-£40 and will show an improvement in performance.

Cheers Kev, i already have a seperate inlet manifold and 38hif carb so no cost there. I was wondering if a midget lcb is the same as/would fit a mog. If so would a performace mog exhaust fit this. it just seems at the moment that there are a lot of midget manifolds for sale at very reasonable prices.

Right Biff the 1st and cheapest option how good are you with a hacksaw, you can saw the inlet part of the standard Moggie manifold or a mini one ( dont cut into the exhaust side ) by 1st taking off the arms and then the middle bit and then clean up enough to allow the inlet to fit, this will enable you to try out the hif38 to see if the improvement is enough without going to more expence although you may have to muck about with the air filter unless you use a K & N or similar.
If you wish you can go straight to a full performance system although the Falcon one Cam has from the Birmingham center seems to leave a bit to be desired as he has had 4 fail so far, the other alternative is to get a Maniflow system or one made up if you have a good exhaust pipework specialist near where you live. It comes down to what you want to spend and you may not get a much bigger improvement with the full system on a standard 1098cc for the extra money spent and you will lose the Moggie exhaust note.

I did exactly this for a 948 and the improvement was definitely worth it. Do fit a standard stainless exhaust system though. the mild steel one I had was inferior and when I cut it to bits the pipe was crimped where it passed thorough the silencer. Hardly condusive to performance!!
