The mounting rubber doesnt look too clever either ... give them a call, I bet they send you a new one for nowt.

I would love to know how they get that rubber in there!
At least the rusty taper will stop it spinning as you tighten the nut - probably designed in for that very purpose. Complain of course - but I feel the part is certainly useable as it is.

I heard a description of a way to get the rubber in there. I don't know if it is the original way. There is a person here,NZ, who refurbishes these parts.
The recess, with bolt in place, is filled with un-vulcanised rubber. This rubber must be heated to make it semi liquid. This is then "cooked" to vulcanise the rubber and set it in place.

Aye -but how to 'fill with unvulcanised rubber' ?? That's the tricky part.

At least the nut and washer look new!!!!

I am very happy dealing with this supplier and their service has been brilliant. They suggested removing the rust with wire wool and failing this offered to replace the part or give me a discount on my next order. OK, fair enough, but i am not looking for discounts and I don't like complaining, so to me it's a quality control issue. I have received quite a few duff parts in the past and a perfect example is shown below-although from a different reputable supplier. Can anybody explain to me how to mount that rebound stop on a flat surface? Look at the bolt hole alignment. Also the metal thickness is also nowhere near that of the original part. My complaint on this item was not even acknowledeged. I cut the rubber off and glued it to the original part and the rest ended up in the bin!

Oh BTW LES if you can recommend some German suppliers I would appreciate it, as it might well save me somwhat on postage.<br><br>

I bought a pair of those rebound rubbers recently and I had one hell of a job lining the holes up. I thought they must be handed but apparently not.

I superglued the rubber back onto my rebound stop rather than fit one of the new ones.

That's exactly what I did-cleaned up the old one and used superglue for the new rubber.

look out for good second hand parts

thats what i do and original parts when they come up

Totally agree aupickup-very much so!

i have in the past had so much trouble with repro rubbish

even simple things like the front bump stops being the wrong shape
heater valves that have to be ground down so you can get the rocker cover on
badly threaded studs for the thermostat housing

the list goes on

i only have new old stock or good used stock on my car now

would much rather wait if possible got these parts i need to come up on ebay or auto jumbles or car shows

Is this for real? A little bit of surface rust and you want to complain, it could have been made years ago. There are always going to be problems with supplying parts for cars this age, but I don't think this is one of them.
