I have a Morris minor 1098 1966, have heard of taking dual SU's of midget along with inlet/outlet manifold, was wondering what would be the best option to get abit more poke out of it, Help very much appreciated thanks danny.

Welcome to the forum ! Many things can be done - some more cost-effective than others. In general these days it's mor normal to simply fit a larger single SU carb - HIF 38 on an MG Metro alloy inlet manifold is ideal But for decnt performance increase - the cylinder head needs changing or modifying - the 12 G 295 head form MG 1100 or Spridget can be fitted, but does need 60 thou skim to keep decent compression ratio. If interested - -buy a copy of Vizard's book on Tuning the A series engine - always plenty on ebay -and read through that!

Hi Dan (best name IMHO

)
Depends on how much cash you have to spend!
I'd recommend buying David Vizards book "tuning the A series"
A good option is a 12g295 head skimmed by a few thou decent inlet manifold + HIF38 carb. Then a decent exhaust system - the standard system is a bit of a strangler

even i gave up on that 940 head. I will now use it on my midget as its unleaded

Thanks for the replies, On the mg metro single carb I take it the manifold will fit on a morris?, Or if i got the dual su's of a 1.1 mg midget ( has to be 1.1 right? lol) along with the inlet an outlet manifolds will they fit? the dual su will look pretty sweet to

On the exhaust how about making it strait through with the better outlet manifold? Help appreciated thanks. BTW I do know my way around an engine, just that im used to working on newer cars as in like 80' an 90's cars etc, I do love the morris in the fact its almost child's play to fix compared to newer cars.

The dual carbs may look sweet, but it is possible that you'll spend an inordinate amount of time balancing them ;)
Vizard's book is well worth buying, it will answer all of your questions and give you many MANY ideas (flowing the head for instance)

Twin carbs look nice but will only be working half the time the only advantage is in inlet design giving improved flow of petrol/air into the engine. However a bigger carb as suggested by others is certainly the way to go and the way I went for a time before fitting a bigger engine.

So for example sake,
If i put this manifold on:
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/MINI-METRO-HIF-44 ... 240%3A1318
Then this carb or:
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/SU-HIF-44-1-3-4-C ... 240%3A1318
This one:
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/HIF-38-carburetto ... 240%3A1318
Depending on witch carb would suit it better, The HIF 44 may be to big?
thanks dan

HIF 44 is a bit big for a 1098 engine - the HIF 38 will do nicely. Far better than 'twins'.

nice one thanks mate, sorry to go and on but just one more question, is that manifold right for the car an the HIF 38(looks like it is but just wanna double check). thanks dan

The 38 is the best carb from the SU range (other carb manufacturers make ones which will fit) Get it onto a decent mini/metro inlet and a decent air filter (not a pancake!)

Alrite thanks everyone for helping I got a list of the stuff to buy now,
38 SU carb
metro/mini inlet manifold
outlet manifold from mini or metro
Thats all

No - the 'outlet' manifold from a Mini or Metro will NOT fit the Minor ! No-one has suggested you do that. You will either need to cut the inlet off your existing manifold, and throw it away, continuing to use the exhaust part of that manifold - or buy a specialist exhaust manifold made to suit a Minor. You would have to do exactly the same with a'twin' set.

if you are going to split the minor manifold to use the mini/metro inlet and moggy exhaust manifold, bear in mind that there is not a great deal of metal seperating the inlet and exhaust so do not try a straight cut between the two.
The best thing to do is to completly sacrifice the moggy inlet and then slowly grind down the "stump" on the exahust manifold, then trial fitting your new inlet and exahust all the time until they fit and do not touch each other.

when I did it I used a hacksaw for the extra control.....

Spridget doesn't fit either.
