Seat piping

Hi,

The topic is seat piping.

It seams that the rule is that MM's seats had contrasting seat piping and Series II ones had matching piping. However, contrasting piping can also be found one some some Series II! I was told that there is no way to know which Series IIs had contrasting piping and which had matching except by using the old seats as a guide.

Is this correct? Is there no rule on this matter?

You see, my car hasn't got the original seats anymore...

Pedro

The Series MM seats were beige up to around 1951 and after that some were body coloured, such as Empire Green, and red in the Clarendon grey cars. I haven't done enough research to work out which colours were used. The early seats had body coloured piping on all the vertical seams and the seat base seams. By 1951 this had been reduced to two piping strips on the seat back and one around the seat base.On the red and green seats the piping was seat coloured. When seats are swapped around over the years it makes research a little tricky.

Early Series III with narrow pleats had light colored piping. At least the red leather sets did.

OK, let me put the question clearly:

- My car is a 4 door saloon, built in January '54 and my seats should be maroon. Should I have matching or contrasting piping?

What do you reckon?

Refering to photos in "Original Morris Minor" by Ray Newell, a useful book which will answer many of your questions, if the seats are red /maroon then the piping is also red/maroon

I agree with Mike. My car is November '53 with maroon seats and maroon piping. :)

OK, I got your message! I'll order maroon with matching piping!

Thank you all for your expertise.
