Which grease for grease nipples?

Hi all, I'm planning on completing more servicing myself in the future on my SII Splitscreen (803cc) and I'm wondering if grease guns are pretty standard? I'm looking at a manual one on ebay. Are they generally compatable with the nipples on a Minor?

Also, what sort of grease should I be using? I've got a tub of Castrol LM in the garage, but I have no idea if this is suitable for my car.

Cheers,
Damian

As above - LM is fine.

Grease guns have 2 main types - the lever type (high pressure) and the syringe type (low pressure). I've found the high pressure to be very useful.
It's also worth to have a flexi hose if your budget allows - this makes it easier to access some of the nipples when space is cramped.

I find I get a much better lock on the nipples if I put a j-cloth over them, it gives the jaws of the grease gun a much better grip.

it does give a better seal, give them a wipe to get the muck off before you apply the grease gun.
