Anyone know how I'm supposed to get the back doors to stay open? Evertime I lean in to the boot at least one of them whacks me in the back - getting tired of the bruises know

No technical terms here I'm afraid. The metal bit that fixes to the door and slides in and out of the fixing in the back of the car has a little dip in it which keeps the door open - I have to lift the screw-type bit to shut the door.
I'm sorry, that probably doesn't make much sense - but have a look at your's and it might!
I think a previous owner has 'adjusted' the dip to keep it there - the right hand door stays better than the left due to the dip being more of a notch. It can be more irritating it staying open when you're trying to close it, rather than it closing on you!
My traveller suffered the same when I first had her and I drilled the dip slightly deeper. Also the end of the pin had worn so i gently re-profiled it until it sat nicely in the dip. It all dismantles very easily, the "head" screws on the plunger bit. Two pairs of mole grips sorts that out!
The pin is spring loaded, and you can fit a slightly stronger spring that will then hold the notch down. As others have noted, you might then need to lift it to shut the doors. No doubt repeated experiments with springs will get the optimum of staying open but also easy to close.

Ahhh yes... I remember stretching the spring to "improve"it as well!
Metal Wedges are one way of keeping those doors open, will post a photo later. (They came with the car and were designed and made by the first owner, a pattern maker at Morris Motors)
How do you stop those rattles and the door handle gradually opening?

Not sure about the rattles but my handle has been modified at some time to be pointing down when locked so it doesn't gradually open itself. I had wondered why mine was different to some others I'd seen until you mentioned this problem......

i saw a post by regalia queen about using gas door stays on hers. Not sure how these work but sounds like a good idea if you are not anal about originality.
i will try and find it.
That's an interesting and professional fix Leo - I think I might bodge it for the time being with a peg - just like the one that holds the choke knob out
Thanks Dan - good info....

The handle pointing down when closed is correct, I knew a man who had his from new and its was always like that. I used big clips like the ones used to hold a tarpalin down on my back doors, very effective and hard too loose as thy are sooobig!
