Hello everyone.

Can anyone tell me if taxing a historic vehicle is any different from taxing a modern one?

I have got my MOT certificate and expect to get my insurance document tomorrow.

I haven't got the V5 or green slip but the seller (a MMOC forum member) said he posted the green slip to me on Friday.

its just the same show your mot insurance and reminder form and then smile because its free

You will need the green slip, MOT and insurance - Take it to the post office - DO NOT hand over any money and make sure everyone in the queue knows your tax disc is free !!!!!

Provided the car already has historic vehicle status then its exactly the same as taxing any other vechicle - but you can't get 6 months worth and get the satisfaction of a confused post oficce worker wondering why they can't charge you.

If its not already set to Historic vehicle then its a trip to a DVLA office to get it converted over

I'm sure she has been declared as historical as the tax that is already in the car cost nil and it's stamped at the post office.

You can get your tax disc on line - the details will be sent with your reminder. No need to spend time waiting in a queue at the post office. The DVLC will automatically check that you have an MOT and insurance then send it to you in the post within a few days. I'm sure most people in the queue don't care a jot how much or how little the person in front is paying

yes! otherwise it will go to the prevoius keeper

how many of you go to the post office and how many go on line I wonder what the differance is between these two and I suppose it depends if you live in a big town or city or in a village like me. My personal oppinion is to support my local post office every time. whats yours

Online, its such a pain in the backside to get to a postoffice only for the busybody behind the counter to peer over their glasses and say "no, can't do it fo xxxx reason"

best one was "its got less than a month of MOT so we can't tax it"

must be differant rules for each post office we have taxed with only 1 week left on mot but if I went into town theres a lady on that counter who would hang draw and quarter you for anything she can find

Same here - all the nearest to us seem to be "clogged" with OAP's buying "One stamp for the electricity"!! You could get 10years older waiting in the queue

I've been trying for several days now to tax my Traveller 'online' - and all I get is 'technical error' message.

I only do it online when I can't find all the documents. (Obviously they exist, but not in the right place at the right time). Otherwise its the local village PO all the time. I try and put as much business their way as pos, and we have just heard that they have had a reprieve and are to stay open

I doubt the PO gets anything for a 'free' Road tax renewal!

I do it online. My local post office doesn't issue road tax.
