Well my mechanic has officially had my moggie for more days than me...

have only had her for two months and have had her in to get a head gasket fixed... which took forever...

they finally went to put it back together and there appears to be oil leaking from one cylinder to another... so the block needs machining.

however two of the pins (they have thread on either end and hold the cylinder head in place) have seized. so they have to probably grind them down and out and then somehow find replacements.... hmmm

also the gear box jumps out of 2nd gear when you take your foot off the throttle...

so mechanic is suggesting replacing this now as well...

what do you all think...

i just want to enjoy my moggie now!! i am so impatient!! i think i have only had her here at home for two of the eight weeks and she wasnt even going very well then!!

Finding replacements is no bother at all. All the Mog suppliers keep them, as I imagine Mini places do too.
As for the 'box - yup, sadly it looks like it is worn, so a replacement (or rebuild if you have the skill) is in order.

Is it a 948 or 1098 Minor. The gearboxes ar different. How are you off for spares in WA?

its a 948, not to sure what the market here is like for spares...

will have to make a few calls to find out...

however my brother in law thinks we should be able to change it ourselves quite easily, so am thinking maybe i should wait...

i just want my beloved car back...

the weekend before i sent it in to get fixed i spent two and a half hours polishing her and now she is so dusty!!

Don't like the idea that ' oil leaking from one cylinder to another... so the block needs machining ' - I would query this ! Maybe the head gasket has not been installed correctly, and maybe the block has been scoured by previous head gasket failure - but it won't be oil leaking between the cylinders! Head studs are same as Mini - so supply surely won't be difficult. They should not 'grind them down' - better to apply heat (to the studs) and then unscrew them from the block. Do you feel this garage knows what they are doing ? I certainly don't.

I am getting my Brother in law to come down to the mechanics tonight to check it out...

there is a young guy working on it but he has been checking in with an older guy who did his apprenticeship on a moggie.

will let you know how it goes tonight.
